RIGHT AGE FOR CARE
During the initial examination, the orthodontist will be able to determine the best possible treatment for your individual needs. At this time, the orthodontist will outline the treatment plan, expected duration of treatment and approximate cost. About one-fourth of our patients are adults; many of them are parents who have seen the improvement in their children’s smiles and decide that they, too, want to have a beautiful smile.
Young Children:
It is better to build a child than to repair an adult. Though an orthodontist can enhance a smile at any age, there is an optimal time period to begin treatment. Starting treatment at this time ensures the best result with the least amount of time and expense. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that the initial orthodontic evaluation should occur at the first sign of orthodontic problems, or no later than age 7. Orthodontic treatment may not be necessary at this early age, but a thorough examination and periodic observations can anticipate the most advantageous time to begin treatment.
Adolescents:
Orthodontic treatment not only improves the dental health and aesthetics but also contributes significantly to a person’s psychosocial development and confidence level. Having a beautiful smile during adolescence can have a positive and enduring effect that lasts a lifetime.
Adult Treatment:
Braces aren’t just for kids anymore. Teeth can be aligned at any age as long as your gums and bone structure are healthy. Orthodontic treatment later in life can dramatically improve your personal appearance and self-esteem. Improving the health of your teeth and gums is equally important. Crooked teeth and abad bite can contribute to gum and bone loss. tooth decay. Abnormal wear of the tooth enamel and surfaces, headaches and jaw joint pain. The good news is that the new techniques and appliances we use greatly reduce discomfort levels, decrease the frequency of visits, shorten treatment time and may allow you to choose from several options. Your options may include metal braces, ceramic braces or transparent Invisalign® aligners that can be worn at night.
